Innovation at work

Rising from an understanding that proximity facilitates both connection and collaboration, GridAKL has been created to bring established innovative business and start-ups together into one humming technology precinct. The home of innovation in Auckland, GridAKL is an Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) initiative with support from Panuku Development Auckland.

Currently, GridAKL is in one building, the GridAKL Hub, in the Lysaght Building on the corner of Halsey Street and Pakenham Street West, which acts as the heart of the precinct. As new buildings are completed or refurbished and join the precinct, the Grid will grow into a thriving community with multiple GridAKL operated buildings within a wider campus of innovative businesses.   The success of GridAKL relies on tapping into the vast community of doers, makers, thinkers, innovators, creators, funders, coders, developers and designers that call Auckland home. Some of these people already work in companies in the GridAKL Hub. More will join the family as participants of the Lightning Lab digital accelerator program or as attendees of recurring tech meetups, hackathons, startup weekends, digital company launches, networking events and collaborative workshops in the hub’s event space.   This thriving precinct is a first for New Zealand, and aims to be ‘THE’ innovation hub of Asia Pacific. The space is ever changing to suit the needs of the residents and wider community and what we learn from the current space will inform what happens with the next building to become available.

The day to day running of GridAKL has become a lesson in collaboration in itself. BizDojo  was appointed to operate the hub and brand, tapping into their wealth of knowledge and experience in creating successful and dynamic co-working spaces. BizDojo are supported by The Icehouse and the Innovation Precinct itself is made possible through strategic interaction and a shared vision with Waterfront Auckland.
