New basketball court surface brings colour to the Te Ara Tukutuku project

New basketball court surface brings colour to the Te Ara Tukutuku project hero image

From Monday, 5 February works will begin to resurface the Wynyard Quarter basketball courts as part of Te Ara Tukutuku project.

We’ve been testing and trialling the previous America’s Cup bases since 2021 to see how people engage with these spaces. The basketball courts are hugely popular, so we’re refurbishing the asphalt to improve the surface and taking the opportunity to give them a new look aligned to our Te Ara Tukutuku mahi.

Te Ara Tukutuku is about opening up these spaces to the public; continuing the journey of regenerating Wynyard Quarter to be a living green space, a vibrant community and destination where everyone feels welcome.

The courts are schedule to be completed and reopen for basketball in late February, weather dependent. We apologise for any inconvenience caused while these works are underway, which have been programmed to be carried out during fine weather and not to coincide with any major events.

We look forward to offering a more attractive and safe public space once the new pavement surface is complete.
